Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup diced onion
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
  • 11 ounce Pillsbury refrigerated French bread dough
  • 0.33 cup ketchup
  • 3 Tablespoons mustard
  • 6 slices cooked and crumbled bacon or 1 package of store-bought bacon pieces
  • 2 dill pickle spears chopped
  • 8 slices American cheese I used Kraft deli deluxe

Topping

  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 Tablespoon sesame seeds

Serving sauce

  • Thousand Island dressing

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large pan, add ground beef and diced onion. Cook and crumble the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Once cooked, drain any excess grease.
  • Roll out the Pillsbury refrigerated French bread dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  • Spread ketchup and mustard evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
  • Evenly layer the cooked beef on top of the ketchup and mustard, then sprinkle the cooked and crumbled bacon and chopped dill pickle spears on top.
  • Place American cheese on top in a single layer.
  • Roll up the dough starting from one long end to the other, sealing the edges.
  • Place the rolled-up dough onto the prepared baking sheet (seam side down).
  • Brush the dough with the beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
  • Once cooked, take it out and let it cool for at least 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
  • We like to serve this with Thousand Island dressing for dipping!

Notes

You can make flavor variations of this bread, like BBQ Chicken or Pizza. Use store-bought bacon for convenience, and consider doubling the recipe for an extra loaf to freeze.
