Equipment

  • Pie Pan
  • blender
  • stand mixer
  • medium pot
  • spatula
  • measuring cup

Ingredients

Crust

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1.75 cups Oreo crumbs or other chocolate sandwich cookie, 24 cookies
  • teaspoon salt optional

Fudge Layer

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into tablespoons
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup Dutch process cocoa powder recommended: Hershey’s special dark cocoa powder
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract

Final Layers

  • 1 container (48-ounce) coffee fudge ice cream or chocolate ice cream
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 Oreo cookies optional, for topping

Instructions

Oreo Crust

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a pie pan with cooking spray. Melt the butter and set aside to cool for 5 minutes. Process the whole cookies into fine crumbs, add to a bowl with salt, and mix with the melted butter.
  • Press the crumb mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool.

Fudge Preparation

  • Cut butter into slices and melt over medium heat with sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, and salt. Whisk until combined and remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and let cool.

Assembly

  • Add half of the fudge mixture to the cooled pie crust and freeze for 10 minutes. Add ice cream, smoothing the top, and freeze again for 10 minutes. Add remaining fudge on top.
  • Whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt until soft peaks form. Spread whipped cream on top and garnish with crushed Oreos. Freeze until solid, about 4–8 hours.

Notes

For a shortcut, use a store-bought Oreo cookie crust and a jar of hot fudge sauce. Frozen whipped topping can replace the from-scratch whipped cream.
